When one first thinks about the area of the world with the most female skateboards, Afghanistan is generally not anywhere near the first country that comes to mind.
However, Skateistan, an NGO founded by Australian Oliver Percovich in 2007, uses skateboarding as a way to build and engage the community, as well as provides back-to-school programs for the many children who have not had the opportunity to attend school during the war.
